The Sylvester Stallone-backed boxing show The Contender is going to court to try and block rival The Next Great Champ from airing.
Contender broadcaster NBC is arguing that the rival show, produced by Fox, is breaking Californian state boxing laws by promoting boxing matches without a licence.
NBC and makers Dreamworks Television say that Fox and producers of The Next Great Champ have broken the laws in an attempt to rush to air their programme before The Contender. The Next Great Champ is due to air on September 10.
Fox were outbid for the rights to The Contender and as a result decided to go with the alternative boxing related show instead.
A spokesperson for Fox said that the lawsuit by NBC was "an effort to stifle competition."
