Stabbed Coronation Street actor John Savident, aka butcher Fred Elliott, has been ruled out of tonight's live episode.
The 62-year-old was due to make an appearance in the special edition to commemorate the show's fortieth anniversary, but has been told by doctors to sit it out in order to recover.
A Street spokeswoman told Ananova: "It's not a huge problem for us at all. We're all very calm about it, it was only a couple of rewrites, another member of cast has agreed to stand in. He was just in the Rovers Return, he wasn't one of the main protagonists. It was a mutual decision, it was decided with John. We just decided he needs this week to get well."
