Prime Minister talkshow flops
Published Saturday, Dec 16 2000, 11:54 GMT | By Neil Wilkes
Ask The Prime Minister failed to live up to expectations on Tuesday evening, gaining just half of its expected 10 million audience.
The one hour special, which started on ITV at 19.00, managed just 5.2 million (23%). However, ITV remained adamant that the show was a success. "We knew it would get around 5m. Prince William only got 5.1m on Monday night so we've done pretty well," said a spokeswoman.
BBC1 enjoyed boosted ratings at the same time, with 8.2 million at 19.00 for Holiday 2000 (up from 6.1 million last week). EastEnders followed up with an average of 11.6 million.
At 21.00, BBC and ITV tied in the ratings for two top dramas. The former's Silent Witness equalled with Peak Practice, with an average of 6.9 million (29%).
