The 52-year-old actress, who was born in Liverpool, will trace her British heritage on the BBC One genealogy show.
Other celebrities taking part this summer include Big Brother host Davina McCall, Martin Freeman and comic David Mitchell.
The first show in the new series will focus on Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles.
