Phonelines for the second series of Big Brother have generated over £500,000 in two days, causing outrage among some fans.
More than 250,000 would-be contestants have rang the hotline at a cost of £1.80 a time in order to receive an application form. Fans of the show now say that the prize money should be boosted from the £70,000 it stood at in the first series.
However, a Channel 4 spokesman told The Sunday People: "The phonelines make us no profit as such. The money will cover the cost of printing and mailing out application forms."
