PPV Rights: BSkyB to bid

BSkyB is preparing a bid for the pay-per-view Premiership football rights package, famously dropped by cable operator ntl last year.

Lawyers are currently assessing whether BSkyB can be permitted to take part in the new round of bidding, after they were prevented from doing so previously. A Premier League spokesman told Media Guardian: "It's being looked at by our lawyers. There are two issues here: can they bid for the rights and do we want them to bid for it if they can? There is interest, but as far as I'm aware no decision has been made."

Meanwhile, ONdigital have so far expressed little interest in a bid. A spokesman said, "Pay-per-view remains a very unproven project. It works up to a point for big events but whether it could work on a week-in, week-out basis remains to be seen."
