The corporation confirmed that the programme would not be returning for another season earlier this month, believing that the series had "reached its natural conclusion" after three years.
Speaking to What's On TV, the actor said: "I think it’s a shame. Someone was saying it’d lost its legs, but I don’t think so. We were shown at different times and for the final episode in which the hero dies and the villain dies - they shift it over to BBC Two, which I don’t think is great.
"[It got a] positive response, but hardly anyone saw it as everyone was watching Andy Murray at Wimbledon on the other channel! I was a bit upset and it was a shame it was switched to BBC Two as it was the best episode of the whole three years by a mile. We felt a bit hard done by, but what can you do."
The final episode of the third season averaged just 2.19 million viewers, marking the show's lowest-ever audience.
