Fiona Phillips has claimed that Amanda Redman doesn't need to worry about her future career prospects.

New Tricks star Redman, 49, recently admitted that she fears being turned down for TV roles due to her age, suggesting that the industry only cares about "the young and the beautiful".

Writing in her column for The Mirror, Phillips commented: "How sad to read that delicious Amanda Redman fears she could lose out on top jobs because of her age."

The former GMTV host said Redman was right to point out that "people do get interesting as they grow older".

She added: "And in the case of the devastatingly sexy Ms Redman, more beautiful too. I think her job's safe."

The presenter has previously criticised the BBC for axing Strictly Come Dancing judge Arlene Phillips in favour of younger star Alesha Dixon.
