The actor, who plays DI Robbie Ross in the popular Scottish detective series, spoke out following rumours that the programme will become a casualty of cost-cutting at ITV.
In an interview with the Daily Record, Michie confirmed that the cast and crew have yet to hear about the drama's future.
However, he added: "We all know that ITV are having funding problems, but I think it'll happen next year. It's too big a hit."
Hugo Speer recently encouraged ITV to keep Taggart on the air after filming a guest appearance.
The show launched on the channel in 1983 and will soon reach its landmark 100th episode.
