3.7m tune in for new ITV prank show

ITV1's new Saturday night prank show Anonymous got off to a decent start in the ratings at the weekend.

The series, which is fronted by Stephen Mulhern, sees celebrities such as Louis Walsh and Corrie's Jennie McAlpine adopt comedy guises to fool their friends and family.

The first episode drew 3.72m (23%) between 6.30pm and 7.30pm, winning its slot and ranking as ITV1's top-rated programme of the day.

After Anonymous, quiz show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? grabbed 3.43m (18.5%), then a repeat of A Touch Of Frost interested 3.09m (15.9%) between 8.30pm and 10.30pm.

On BBC One, Total Wipeout had a healthy 4.48m (24.8%) from 7.15pm, then The National Lottery: Guesstimation appealed to 4.64m (24.2%). Casualty was the best-performing programme of the day on any channel, with 5.08m (25.2%) from 9.05pm.

BBC Two documentary Versailles: The Dream of a King, about the lavish ways of French King Louis XIV, had 2.1m (10.8%) from 8.15pm. An extended version of Have I Got News For You followed with 1.93m (9.6%) over 40 minutes.

Five's NCIS double-bill had 1.06m (5.6%) and 1.15m (5.7%) from 8pm, then at 9.55pm, CSI picked up 1.33m (7.6%). Law & Order: SVU closed off prime for Five with 1m (8.6%).

The ongoing final season of ER could only muster 460k (2.4%) for Channel 4 in the 8pm hour. Big Brother followed with an encouraging 1.56m (7.8%), a week-on-week rise of more than 500k.

BBC One finished ahead in primetime overall with an average audience share of 22.3% to ITV1's 16.9%. BBC Two was third with 10.2%, followed by Channel 4 with 6.4% (+1: 0.8%) and Five with 6.4%.
