The new series of the daytime drama will run for a total of ten episodes, making it double the length of the first.
The episodes will once again be written by a combination of new and established writers and be filmed on location in and around Liverpool.
BBC One's Liam Keelan said of the recommission: "As the sole provider of originated drama in daytime, it's really important BBC One delivers something as distinctive as Moving On.
"The quality of writing and acting talent proved a real hit with our viewers and builds on the strong reputation of other daytime dramas such as the award-winning Doctors and the forthcoming Land Girls."
Filming on the new series is due to commence later this year, with transmission scheduled for spring 2010.
