Auf Wiedersehen Pet star Timothy Spall is to star in a new £2 million family film for BBC One.
The actor will play a grumpy teacher who reluctantly takes his class on a school trip, which ends up being a life-changing experience for him.
The BBC's drama executive, Laura Mackie, told The Mirror, "It's the kind of school trip from hell we've all been on, with a few jaded teachers trying to shepherd bored kids around some site of cultural significance they couldn't care less about.
"But for a few, the day out has life-changing results. It's a colourful, life-affirming story about people's need to have something bigger in their lives."
Acorn Antiques actress Celia Imrie and Coupling star Ben Miles have also signed up for the project.
