Gina Riley and Jane Turner, who both write and star in the series, have said that they are ready to return to the screen after a long break.
Riley, who is currently playing Mama Morton in a touring production of Chicago, told the Herald Sun: "I'm really missing the writing and desperate to really get back into it. After the fourth series we all felt burnt out, as you do, as it takes about a year and a half to get it all done."
She continued: "We just really wanted to have a break and I think it's been really good for us, because then you come back fresh and raring to go."
When asked if they will be developing Kath and Kim's alter egos Prue and Trude further or even giving them their own spinoff show, Riley added: "It could be any of those, or a combination of those, it's hard to know."
The American adaptation of the show was recently cancelled.
