BBC announces 'Turn Of The Screw'

Rex Features

BBC One has announced plans to screen a re-work of Henry James's The Turn Of The Screw.

The one-off 90-minute drama, scheduled to air this winter, features a cast including Cranford's Michelle Dockery, The Royal Family's Sue Johnston and Mark Umbers, who previously starred in Mistresses.

The story follows young governess Ann (Dockery), who is sent to a country house to take care of two orphans, Miles (Josef Lindsay) and Flora (Eva Sayer). Johnston and Umbers will play Mrs. Grose and the Master respectively.

BBC's Ben Stephenson said of the commission: "Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without a ghost story for the adults to watch in front of the fire when the children are in bed, and they don't get more chilling than this bold reimagining of the classic Henry James tale."

Filming is slated to begin in August on location in the West Country.
