The former American Idol panellist recently said that she would consider a position on the Fox dance competition show, while judge Nigel Lythgoe admitted that he wants the 'Straight Up' singer to join the series.
However, fellow moderator Murphy said that she is not sure if viewers are ready to witness Abdul on the programme.
She told E!: "She might be sitting next to me this season, you never know. I'm not sure America's ready for that. There could be a catfight between me and Paula - or a dance fight!"
She added: "I know one thing for sure, I could definitely beat her at the tango, quickstep and cha-cha. She'd probably get me in hip-hop, I'd have to say."
Abdul has reportedly been offered jobs on Australian Idol and Dancing With The Stars, which just announced its celebrity lineup for its ninth season.
