Ryan Alexander Jenkins, 32, had fled to Canada after the body of swimsuit model Jasmine Fiore was discovered in a California park last weekend.
He was later found dead at a motel in British Columbia with preliminary reports suggesting that he took his own life.
VH1 and 51 Minds Entertainment, which produces and owns the programmes, had previously insisted that Jenkins would not have been offered a role on the show if his criminal background had been known.
A former contestant on one of the programmes, who chose to remain anonymous, added to People: "We did give them lots of extensive background information. They wanted to know my criminal history, social security numbers, multiple different times, and drivers' licence numbers.
"They did a pretty thorough check on me and I've got to assume they did it for everybody else."
VH1 had already pulled future episodes of Megan from its schedule after Jenkins was initially charged with the murder of 28-year-old Fiore.
