After performing Chris Brown's 'Run It' on Wednesday night's show, the 20-year-old Melbourne worker was voted into the final 12 of the competition by judges Marcia Hines, Ian Dickson and Jay Dee Springbett.
He told the Herald Sun: "This is a massive head-spin, a lot to take in - like the buzz of riding a rollercoaster."
Newnham had never sung in public until last week and his parents were unaware of his talent. He said: "I'd only really sung in the shower and the car and done karaoke before this."
Talking about his future in the music industry, he added: "If I got the chance to make an album it would be R&B/hip hop music. Every time you're at a party and that style of music comes on, everybody starts dancing. I love seeing the smiles on their faces."
