Australian Idol's new judge has been forced to defend himself after the public have labelled him "boring".

Jay Dee Springbett, who was recently introduced to the show after shamed DJ Kyle Sandilands was fired, said that he believes people will soon see the more interesting side to his personality.

He told the Courier Mail: "When I feel really comfortable, people will see the real me. I have never been called boring in my life."

Talking about Sandilands, the music executive said: "He added something to the show, he is a really witty guy... but he is no longer there and I'm not Kyle. I am not going to rip people apart for the sake of it."

Springbett also added that he brings a brand of expertise lacking in his fellow judges Marcia Hines and Ian Dickson, saying: "Australia was the only part of the world where there wasn't a record executive on Idol... Dicko may think he is a record executive but he is more of a morning radio presenter now."
