Australian music guru Molly Meldrum has been banned by Channel Seven from appearing in two planned Hey, Hey It's Saturday reunion specials on rival network Channel Nine.

Meldrum appeared on the legendary Saturday evening show as its music contributor and interviewed some of the world’s biggest musical acts including The Rolling Stones and Kylie Minogue. He defected to Seven from Nine following Hey, Hey's cancellation.

"At the moment I am not allowed to do it and I honour that," the 63-year-old said. "I work for Channel Seven and I believe David Leckie (Channel Seven CEO) has said no."

Host Darryl Somers will join former cast members John Blackman, Lavinia Nixon, Wilbur Wilde and Russell Gilbert for the reunion specials, which are to air in September and October.
