'Rafters' creator hits back at critics

Packed To The Rafters creator Bevan Lee has defended himself after recent storylines were met with public outrage.

Many viewers complained after an episode of the Aussie TV show featured an affair, a masturbation scene and three sex fantasies, but Lee has said that fans have to get used to the fact that he doesn't want to create a squeaky-clean show.

Lee told The Daily Telegraph: "I think we've created a family and everyone has so identified with that family, that they've said to themselves 'they're us' but that family is not them. It is a fictional construct that represents Australian family life in its multiple dimensions."

He continued: "I have never been as surprised in my 30-year career as the reaction to the episode about male fantasy."

Lee added: "I thought we'd done something charming and cheeky and risque but suddenly the press erupted as though we'd been doing porn."

Packed To The Rafters is watched by approximately 2 million viewers every week.
