The six-part series, titled Newly Meds, will reveal what life is really like for the UK's newly qualified doctors both at work and at play.
New recruits will be followed over a four-month period as they leave their student days behind them and start their careers.
BBC Three controller Danny Cohen commented: "Newly Meds is an exciting new project that adds to the channel's growing portfolio of entertaining and thought-provoking documentary series."
Filming on Newly Meds is due to start next summer with transmission scheduled for late 2010.
