The programme, written and directed by Rob Coldstream, is set in a Britain where the death penalty has been reintroduced and convicted paedophile Glitter is the first to be tried.
A spokesperson confirmed that the channel had been in contact with Glitter to inform him about the film, The Execution Of Gary Glitter, which is scheduled to air Monday, November 9.
"High-profile crimes against children often prompt calls for the death penalty," said Channel 4's head of documentaries Hamish Mykura. "This drama confronts the public with what many say they want.
"Putting a resonant figure like Gary Glitter into a fictional situation helps to engage the viewer as the drama unfolds.
"The debate around the death penalty arouses passions on both sides. This drama, with its compelling and original narrative, is an intelligent and thought-provoking examination of the issue."
