Speaking on This Morning, Steadman revealed that when she read the script, she knew the role was right for her.
"It doesn't happen very often that you get a part written for you and when I first saw the script, the first scene I read when she's lying on the couch with cucumbers on her eyes and as soon as I read that I thought, yeah, I know this character - I'd love to play that!"
She added that she can sympathise with Pamela and the way she acts around her son Gavin.
"She loves Gavin and calls him her little prince and I've got two boys and I know that - it's so tempting to keep making a fuss even though they are grown up!" she said.
"At the end of the last series Gavin said he was going to move to Barry, so at the start of the new series you see him at his new desk in the office in Barry - so Pam's little prince has left Billericay and has gone to Wales."
Gavin & Stacey returns to BBC One for its third and final series on Thursday, November 26.
