Jo Brand 'didn't get role based on her'

The stand-up told The Word that she had not had much success as an actress prior to her recent casting in BBC4 show Getting On.
Brand said: "As an actress I'm a complete failure. I even once failed an audition playing a character who was based on myself.
"Lynda La Plante wrote a series called Comics and there was a fat woman comic in it who was very bolshy."
She added: "They phoned to tell me it was based on me and would I audition for it. But I was so bad that someone else got the part."
