The plot details 18-year-old Amelia Edwards, who has been fitted with a cochlear implant. The device is a success and finally enables her to hear, but she finds herself struggling to accept her new place in the hearing world.
This is the first major role for severely deaf actress Genevieve Barr, who won the part of Amelia while she was on the Teach First scheme.
The series is produced by Eleanor Greene and directed by Emmy Award-winning director Dearbhla Walsh (The Tudors).
An airdate for The Silence is yet to be confirmed.
