ITV has confirmed plans to launch a spinoff of popular football drama Footballers' Wives later this spring.
Called Footballers' Wives - Extra Time, the new show will focus on the late night antics of the players and their better halves. The cast will include established Footballers’ Wives names as well as new faces and "a dash of celebrity."
Unusually, the show will air exclusively on ITV2, making it the channel's first ever original drama series.
"I am very excited about this series. It is the biggest thing we have ever done on ITV2," said Daniela Neumann, Controller of Commissioned Programmes for ITV2 and ITV3. "What better way to have drama on the channel than to extend a series the audience already loves and understands, and is a perfect fit for ITV2. It will be a must-view for all Footballers' Wives fans."
Extra Time - which has been commissioned for a 12, 30-minute episode run - will debut after series four of Footballers' Wives concludes in April.
