The dark comedy, written by Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, will also come back for a one-off special to be shown next year. The new six-part series will follow in 2011.
The climatic cliffhanger at the end of the first year was designed to persuade the BBC to commission more episodes.
The first series aired during the summer with Shearsmith and Pemberton acting alongside Dame Eileen Atkins, Christopher Biggins and Dawn French.
