Victoria Wood: 'I hate watching myself'

Victoria Wood has admitted that she hates watching herself on screen.

The 56-year-old comedienne, who recently filmed a Christmas special for BBC One, told Radio Times that she has also been working on a behind-the-scenes companion piece.

"Someone followed us around with a camcorder, so I've been wading through 36 hours of footage and I'm sick of the sight of myself," she said.

"I hate looking at myself on screen anyway. No I honestly think, 'Get off the bloody screen'."

She also revealed that the Christmas special came about after the BBC approached her with a view to airing some of her old work.

"The BBC came to me about showing some of my old material and I thought that's nice but I'd like to put in some new material," she said.

"Then I thought I'd do all new material because I felt like I had good ideas and I was ready to do comedy."
