The revived variety show, which returns next year after a decade off the air, is believed to be part of the Nine Network's plans to rival Channel 7's viewing figures in 2010.
Chief executive David Hyngell told The Australian: "We aim to become even more competitive, and combine Nine's experience with youthful vigour and take the network to number one."
TV insiders believe that Nine's new Aussie police factual series AFP, together with ongoing shows such as Two and a Half Men, Top Gear and Underbelly, will boost audience numbers.
Nine also announced that it will be launching a third free channel early next year.
