Former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has been announced to make a cameo appearance in the final episode of Gavin & Stacey.

Character Nessa Jenkins, played by co-writer of the BBC One comedy Ruth Jones, has referred to him several times in the programme as one of her old flames.

The 71-year-old is now due to appear at the wedding of Nessa and current love Dave Coaches in the last episode of the show's third and final series on New Year's Day, BBC News reports.

Confirming the news on Twitter, Prescott said: "Now you know what's occurin' on Jan 1!"
