Corbett criticises lower TV standards

Ronnie Corbett has spoken out about the decline in the standards of British television programmes.

Corbett, who is to reunite with Ronnie Barker for another series of The Two Ronnies, told the Radio Times that there are too many reality TV shows and too much bad language: "You get fed up watching shows with not much care and love.

"There's a lot of swearing on TV today. They even have documentaries with the f-word."

He went on to criticise panel quiz shows such as They Think It's All Over, stating: "It's just laughing at each other and thinking, 'Aren't we clever?'"

Both Victoria Wood and David Jason have recently voiced similar complaints, with the Only Fools And Horses actor warning against "dumbing-down for the audience" and letting the output be "too safe and too cheap".

Comedienne Wood told the magazine: "With so many good writers and good performers, it's a shame people can't just write a script and have other people learn it."
