Speaking to Radio Times, the 27-year-old singer-turned-actress said that she has received widespread criticism over her decision to take on the part.
"All of a sudden, I am the face of prostitution," she said. "Suddenly, it's my entire fault and it's massively irresponsible and I'm responsible for glamorising prostitution and making it OK.
"Big, scary, opinionated people suddenly had things to say about me. I was quite surprised, and quite frightened, to be honest."
Piper also said that she is unsure where she stands on prostitution and whether she is for or against legalising it.
