Wine expert Olly Smith has admitted that he cried after landing the job presenting the UK version of
Iron Chef.

Smith confessed to begging for a screen test for the show, revealing that he was a huge fan of the American and Japanese versions of the cult cookery series.

"When they finally got back back to me - which was after about a week of waiting - I'm not afraid to admit that I may have shed a man tear," he said.

Smith's TV credits include Saturday Kitchen and Richard & Judy's Wine Club. Before moving into presenting and journalism, he worked as a writer on animated TV shows and films such as Pingu, Wallace & Gromit and Charlie & Lola.

The UK version of Iron Chef will air on Channel 4 later this year.
