Matt Lucas has quit BBC Two panel show Shooting Stars, according to The Sun.

The 36-year-old Little Britain star is apparently stepping down from his role as George Dawes to concentrate on a new project with comedy partner David Walliams.

"It's the first time in six series that I can't be in it and I'm obviously sad. I hope we can do something together again soon," Lucas is quoted as saying.

The cult show, which returned last year after a seven-year absence, will be back later this year for a new six-part run.

Ulrika Johnson and Jack Dee will again feature as team captains. It has not yet been announced whether Lucas will be replaced.
