Four Weddings and a Funeral actress Anna Chancellor is joining Spooks.
Chancellor joins the show when the new series begins in the autumn. She plays National Security Co-ordinator, Juliet Shaw.
As Anna arrives on the show, Olga Sosnovska, who is leaving to have a baby, makes a dramatic exit. Her character, Fiona Carter, is shot by her ex-husband.
"It's a terrific, shocking end for Fiona, which will have viewers gripped, but it's a new beginning for Olga, who is very excited about the pregnancy," a source told The Mirror.
Chancellor's character is expected to stir things up from the moment she arrives. She is a face from the past for Harry Pearce, head of the counter-terrorist unit, and the two are soon involved in a huge power-struggle, according to the newspaper.
"Anna was an inspired piece of casting," the source added. "She is very handsome looking and is excellent at playing a woman operating in a man's world. But it's bad news for Harry, she's his nemesis. Think Stella Rimmington with sex appeal."
