Matthew Johns has reportedly been left "floundering" prior to the launch of his new primetime show for Channel 7.

The former Australian footballer, who was axed from The Footy Show last year following a group sex scandal, is believed to be struggling to produce funny material for The Matty Johns Show.

An industry insider told The Daily Telegraph that Johns has been left "floundering", "scratching his head" and looking "exposed" during recording sessions for the show.

One production worker said: "He's a very nice bloke, but a bloke who nonetheless isn't a comedy writer and has the weight of the programme riding on his shoulders. We are spending a lot of time waiting for inspiration to come and frankly, it's taking its time."

A source for Seven Sport said that the rumours were "rubbish", adding: "Johns is surrounded by an A team of writers and producers. They spend all day cracking each other up."

Johns also said: "I have a great team behind me. It is hard work, but it's enjoyable and I'm having a lot of fun. We're looking forward to launching next week."
