The 49-year-old presenter left the breakfast show in 2008 after 12 years and has since vowed never to return to the job.
According to The Sun, Phillips has cited her mother's battle with Alzheimer's and the stress of GMTV as the reasons behind her depression.
"I had a breakdown," she admitted. "When I look back, I do think - God, I was severely depressed. It was everything I could do to go into work and look after the children. I was not functioning normally."
