Stand-up comedian Michael McIntyre is to host the 2010 Royal Variety Performance, it has been announced.

The 34-year-old, who has appeared at the event as a performer twice before, will be the youngest ever presenter of the annual show.

Speaking of his hosting role, McIntyre commented: "I got my big break at the Royal Variety Performance in 2006 and returned in 2008, but now to host it is such an honour and I'm unbelievably excited.

"The Queen and Prince Charles alternate their attendance. This year, [as] on both of my previous appearances, I will be performing for Prince Charles. I can't wait to entertain him for a third time, although it does seem obvious that the Queen is avoiding me!"

McIntyre currently has his own Comedy Roadshow series on BBC One and has released two DVDs, titled Live and Laughing and Hello Wembley respectively.

The Royal Variety Performance will air on BBC One in December.
