Journalist and TV presenter Matt Allwright is a strong contender for The One Show job, say reports.

According to The Mirror, the 40-year-old has emerged as a popular choice to replace Adrian Chiles on the teatime magazine show.

"Matt would fit right in," said a source. Allwright's TV credits include Watchdog, Rogue Traders, Scambusters and Food Poker.

Yesterday, tabloids claimed that Top Gear's Richard Hammond was the frontrunner to replace Chiles on a permanent basis. Other stars linked the the vacant role include Strictly Come Dancing champion Chris Hollins, Matthew Wright and Crimewatch presenter Rav Wilding.
