Stand-up comic Mark Watson has claimed that he is not worried about being criticised for going on a reality TV show.

The We Need Answers presenter, 30, will appear on ITV1's Marco's Kitchen Burnout this week, alongside Ruth Langsford and former WAG Elen Rives.

However, Watson insisted that he is unperturbed by rival comics who may mock him for his latest TV venture.

"It would be quite easy for people to do that because on the show I don't get much opportunity to be funny apart from burning things and knocking things over," he told DS.

"You could quite easily say, 'He used to do funny stand-up and now he messes around in a kitchen'. But what I would probably say about people who criticise comedians that have become more well-known is that they usually have some sort of axe to grind.

"To be honest, I won't worry about it because I try not to worry about people saying that classic line, 'He's not as funny as he used to be'. I'm quite a neurotic person, so if I worried about that I'd have a dreadful life."

He added: "Also, I don't think I'm well-known enough to get any genuine spite. If you are someone like Michael McIntyre, you put yourself in the firing line for enormous criticism for just being so famous. I am at the stage where I can still get away with doing odd things like this... I think.

"I got away with advertising Magners last year, so If I can get away with that, I reckon I can get away with a TV show."
