Guest 'Countdown' presenters revealed
Published Saturday, Jun 4 2005, 10:37 BST | By Daniel Kilkelly
Opera singer Lesley Garrett, actor Stephen Fry and lyricist Sir Tim Rice are amongst the stars who will stand in for Countdown host Richard Whiteley.
The Dictionary Corner regulars will be the first-ever guest presenters of the Channel 4 show, while Whiteley recovers from pneumonia.
Former Tory MP Gyles Brandreth and musician Richard Stilgoe will also host the show for week-long stints in the summer.
A source told The Mirror, "The plans were left until the last moment because everyone wanted to see how Richard was doing. He is very much better but still needs time - and this seemed the best way to ensure he'll be back on top form in the autumn."
