Five volcano doc interests 1.6 million

The programme - first shown on the National Geographic channel - had earlier spawned controversy after The Daily Star ran a front page with the headline 'Terror as plane hits ash cloud'. The newspaper was removed from shops at Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
Earlier on Five, documentary Suffolk Strangler interested 1.3m (6.1%) in the 8pm hour. The audience then grew to 2.16m (9.7%) for NCIS an hour later.
ITV1's live coverage of the UEFA Champions League game between Bayern Munich and Lyon averaged 2.98m (14%) from 7.30pm.
New Channel 4 reality series Three In A Bed launched to 1.84m (8.6%) in the 8pm hour, with a further 233k (1.1%) on timeshift. At 9pm, Jamie Does... Andalucia appealed to 2.54m (11.4%) and 217k (1.2%).
A new episode of Waterloo Road grabbed 4.58m (21.3%) for BBC One at 8pm, then the audience fell to 2.63m (11.8%) for Can You Train Your Brain?
On BBC Two, The Edible Garden and Cracking Antiques interested 1.54m (7.4%) and 1.61m (7.2%). At 9pm, Monty Halls' Great Hebridean Escape had 2.21m (10%).
BBC One averaged 19.9% in primetime overall, comfortably ahead of ITV1's 14.7%. Channel 4 was third with 8.3% (+1: 0.9%), followed by BBC Two with 8% and Five with 6.6%.
