New deal for Outhwaite

By
EastEnders actress Tamzin Outhwaite has signed a new deal with the BBC, making her Britain's highest-paid soap star.

According to the Sunday Mirror, Outhwaite, who plays Melanie Owen in the soap, has had a salary rise from £130,000 to £280,000 per year, topping the £160,000 earnt by Barbara Windsor and Wendy Richard.

Producers have also agreed to let the 30-year-old star work on other television projects with the Corporation, which will push her final earnings up to £1 million.

However, the deal has said to have angered some fellow members of the cast. One source told the 'paper: "There are a lot of egos involved here and certain people are fuming.

"But Tamzin is in a strong position. She is one of the most popular characters, and the BBC want to make sure she stays."
