Into The West, a Steven Spielberg-produced miniseries for the American cable channel TNT, has been picked up for BBC Two for transmission next year.
"Following on from Band of Brothers and Taken, we're really pleased to continue our relationship with DreamWorks and the eminent Steven Spielberg to acquire this drama mini-series for the BBC," said George McGhee, the BBC's controller of programme acquisitions.
Over six 90-minute episodes, Into The West follows the experiences of two families in the period 1825 to 1892; one, a Virginia family moving west to search for a new life, the other, a Native American tribe.
Into The West will begin airing in the US on June 10.
