Ruth Jones joins Hattie Jacques biopic

Ruth Jones has signed up to play Hattie Jacques in a new BBC biopic.

Jones has agreed to appear as the Carry On star in Hattie, PA reports.

The programme will examine Jacques's secret affair with a younger man, which took place while she was married to Dad's Army actor John Le Mesurier.

"Hattie Jacques is a comedy hero of mine and I'm thrilled to have been asked to play her," Jones said. "She was an incredibly talented and fascinating woman both on and off screen and so much more than just the 'funny fat lady'. I can't wait."

Hattie is expected to air on BBC Four later this year.
