BBC bosses may ban Russell Brand from appearing on a forthcoming episode of Friday Night With Jonathan Ross, a report has claimed.

Yesterday, it was revealed that Ross had invited Brand to be a guest on the final edition of his long-running chatshow.

Sources have suggested that the broadcaster wants to use his swan song episode as an opportunity to speak publicly about 2008's 'Manuelgate' scandal, which saw the pair condemned for leaving offensive messages on Andrew Sachs's answerphone.

However, according to The Sun today, BBC chiefs are "furious" over Ross's plans and are keen to veto the idea.

An insider told the newspaper: "[It's] not what we want. We want to go out on a positive note."

Ross will leave the corporation when his current contract expires in July.
