The BBC have received more than 400 complaints over their Live 8 broadcast at the weekend.

Various artists breached the 'no swearing before 9 o'clock' rule, including Madonna, who shouted: "Are you f***ing ready London?" She also unintentionally swore in an interview with Jo Whiley, unaware that the cameras were rolling. She moaned: "Can't you do anything about the f***ing lighting? It's really harsh."

Soon after, Razorlight's Johnny Borrell declared: “I say sign the f***ing petition.???

Snoop Dogg, however, was the worst offender when he repeatedly used the phrase “mother f***er??? in one of his songs.

A spokeswoman for the BBC acknowledged that they had received a vast amount of complaints.

She said: "Millions of people enjoyed our 12 hours of live broadcasting. We are sorry if any offence was caused."
