Burley came under fire after reducing the singer to tears during a live chat on Sky News in February.
Speaking at the launch of his new reality show Peter Andre: The Next Chapter, the star admitted that he decided against trying to approach the newsreader because of a lack of experience.
He said: "It was interesting because when we did The 5 O'Clock Show she was the first person I suggested.
"But I thought, 'I'm not a journalist', so in a way I would have made a joke of something that had happened as opposed to try and interrogate her.
"I'm new to the ranks and I've got to build my way up of being a journo so for me it wouldn't have been a good idea."
