The six-part series, written by Jimmy McGovern, focuses on how various people ended up in court.
Stevenson, who has previously appeared in Truly Madly Deeply, will join 'Helen's Story' as a mother fighting for justice for her son Rob. Capaldi, who stars in The Thick Of It, will play Rob's father.
Meanwhile, Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll actor Andy Serkis will appear in 'Liam's Story' as a taxi driver who falls for one of his customers.
Filming for the episodes will begin shortly.
