Josh Palmer has become the latest Canadian Idol finalist to be cut from the competition.

Ironically, the rocker's exit came after a rock-themed performance show, where he had taken on Derek and The Dominoes hit 'Layla'.

"I'd like to send my thankyou from the bottom of my heart that I've been able to connect with so wide an audience," said the 22-year-old afterwards. A season high of 3.35 million votes had been cast, just shy of the 3.6 million votes received in last season's finale.

Joining Palmer in the bottom three were the other two rockers: Suzi Rawn, 22, and Rex Goudie, 19.

The remaining five - Rawn, Goudie, Melissa O'Neil, Casey LeBlanc and Aaron Walpole - will pay tribute to Canadian rock and roll band The Guess Who in next week's show.
